General Exchange server settings

When a customer has their email handled remotely (by a MS Exchange Server or Google Mail), we need to make changes to our DNS records. This will typically be an issue when someone on the Build Your Firm server tries to email another account on the server that has a remote mail service. Our server sees them as local and will NOT send the email out to the internet, instead trying to send it directly to the local account. By telling the server that the account has a REMOTE MAIL EXCHANGER, it wil force the email off server to the internet.


  • In WHM, go to DNS Functions-> Edit a DNS Zone and choose the domain name in question.
  • Go to the bottom of the page and choose Remote Mail Exchanger from the four options at the bottom of the page.
  • Clicking on Save will force the DNS service to restart and update the records for our server.
